Holiday Itinerary

Spend 4 nights / 5 days enjoying horse riding treks through rolling countryside or along the beach, perfectly paired with sunrise and sunset yoga sessions - the perfect way to bring focus to the start your day then stretch after a rewarding day in the saddle.
This unique holiday gives you the rare chance to experience a fully functioning equestrian centre while also getting in about 3 hours of yoga a day. With the daily Ashtanga and Yin yoga practice, the opportunity to really connect with the horses during your stay, along with taking in all the beautiful surroundings, it's a great way to improve your wellbeing and focus on mindfulness.
With the stables and 12 horses close by, you’ll make yourself at home in one of the bedrooms of the traditional Cortijo, set around a lovely courtyard. There's also plenty of outdoor space if you want to relax by the pool or go for a stroll in the countryside. Your hosts created this space to make you feel right at home and enjoy a typical Andalucian farm while enjoying modern comforts.

- Horse riding and yoga holidays are suitable for all levels from complete beginners to experienced yogis, however guests must have experience in horse riding
- There is no minimum age and families with children and babies are welcome; however guests must “saddle fit” and be able to control a forward going horse at canter and gallop
- All under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult
- All classes are taught in English, however staff can also speak in Spanish, Slovak, Czech, and some German
- All equipment will be provided for your holiday, including yoga mats, riding boots, and helmets but please bring comfortable clothing for yoga and horse riding

Travelling solo?
- These horse riding holidays make great singles holidays and singles are welcome to join an existing group
- Solo travellers can either share a twin room with another solo traveller (subject to availability) or can pre-book a private single room for a small supplement

Holiday start days
- Holidays run from February to November on set dates except for July and August
- Arrival days are on Monday
- Horse riding holidays are for 4 nights / 5 days

Horse riding and yoga itinerary
The itinerary is for guidance only and is subject to change depending on the weather or the group’s needs and wishes but is typically as follows:

Day 1: Arrival
- Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport and driven to the Cortijo (if you have booked a transfer) and get the full tour a tour of the buildings, introduced to the horses, not to mention ponies, donkeys, goats, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, geese and shown the yoga studio
- Before dinner, join in for a light yoga session to stretch and relax after your travels
- Enjoy a great dinner in the main hall and meet the staff and other travellers

Day 2: Relax
- Start the day with sunrise yoga, followed by a light breakfast
- Head out to meet the horses, and be matched with your horse and get to know them; light instruction will be given to make everyone at ease with their horse
- After lunch, enjoy a horse ride to discover the local area
- A sunset yoga session will be held before dinner

Day 3: The beach
- The morning will start off by yoga by the sea, followed by breakfast on the beach
- As the beach goes on for miles with no buildings, you’ll have a nice walk on the beach
- Head back to the Cortijo for lunch, then meet with the Natural Horsemanship instructor, who will explain and demonstrate the inspiring way she trains and works with her stunning stallions
- Complete the day with sunset yoga, followed by dinner in the historic and beautiful town Vejer de la Frontera where you can feast on an abundance of local Spanish delicacies

Day 4: Riding day
- Start off with morning yoga, then after some simple riding instruction, you will head out on your horses for a gentle ride to a “Venta” for lunch
- After lunch, you’ll enjoy a hack around the local countryside of the Cortijo
- Finish the day with evening yoga followed by a relaxed and fantastic farewell dinner 
Day 5: Departure day
- After your final sunrise yoga session and breakfast, you’ll be taken back to the airport for your departure (if you have booked transfers), with some time to relax before boarding your flight

About the riding instructors
- Adrian has come from a local family who has a long history of horse riding and instruction around the area for decades
- He has a gentle hand with the horses, and they are completely at ease and relaxed with him
- Maria is originally from Slovakia where she worked with Amazon but she quit in 2017 and headed to Spain to live her dream of working with horses, and started by working at an Equestrian centre where she was mentored by the owners and graduates of the Royal equestrian school Jerez de la Frontera
- The services at the Cortijo include several courses through the year, Simin runs Classic Natural Horsemanship, Equus Communication, Mirror Your Soul Experiences and Working Equitation courses along with Manolo Oliva

About the horses
- The horses are Andalusian and Andalusian crosses and are all schooled for many months before they are used by guests
- They are fit, responsive and have the classic good nature of the local breed, gentle giants enjoying their work and a pleasure to ride
- The horses are usually ridden in English bridles and each horse will also have their own saddle
- These are an English style general purpose/endurance type of saddle and are very comfortable
- You are expected to tack up and groom your horse, although assistance is available if you need help
- You need to be able to mount from the ground and from both sides of the horse although at the Cortijo there are mounting blocks and steps
- You should be competent at walk, trot and canter outdoors, with good riding balance
- The hacking out is on mixed terrain and this dictates the pace together with the ability of the rider and horse combinations, however, there are many places for trots and canters

About the equestrian centre
- 28 indoor and outdoor stables
- A horse walker
- Two training arenas with 22 acres of land
- Multiple paddocks and horse pens together with storage and saddle rooms
- The centre has 12 horses and ponies varying in age from 2 to 20 years
- The horses are mainly locally bred Lusitano cross
- The horses are well trained, schooled and suitable for all riders
- The horses range in height from the smallest miniature pony to horses up to 16hh

About the yoga instructors
- Yoga instructors are brought in during the holidays so you have someone knowledgeable leading your classes and instruction during your holiday
- Each instructor has an easy going, laid back approach and is happy to help anyone at any level
- The yoga focuses primarily on Ashtanga and Yin styles

Optional activities
- More horse riding lessons or one-one lessons/hacks from €40 per hour
- Taxis to the local beach or town from €15 each way
- Swimming with horses (when available) from €95 per person

- Your accommodation is set in the tranquil grounds of a traditional Spanish farmhouse just a 15 minute drive from the natural beaches of El Palmar and Zahora
- You’ll stay in one of nine beautifully renovated rooms, some of which are apartments, family rooms, or twin or doubles, so there is the perfect accommodation for everyone
- Set around a central Andalusian courtyard, all rooms offer courtyard or garden views
- All rooms are air conditioned, have a private bathroom and are styled with period features true to the Cortijo history
- The courtyard is an amazing place to have your breakfast, read a book, watch the birds, or just relax
- There is an outdoor pool for you to use (seasonally) and an outdoor BBQ
- There is also a communal main hall with a fireplace, a dining room with a log burner, music system, and games
- Televisions and WiFi
- Plenty of outdoor paths for walking and exploring over 22 acres
- Accommodation is included for 4 nights / 5 days
- Check in anytime after 3pm on day 1 and check out by 12 noon on day 5

- On the first night of your relaxing holiday, you will enjoy a dinner where you will meet your fellow guests and instructors
- 5 fresh breakfasts of local fruits and yoghurts are provided in the central dining room
- 2 lunches are served at the Cortijo which will be fresh salads and juices and one day you will venture out to a local venta (restaurant) that have a selection of soft drinks and water
- Please note that lunch is not provided on your free day giving you the flexibility to dine where you please
- 3 dinners are provided at the Cortijo and one dinner will be at a local restaurant in the beautiful hill-top town of Vejer de la Frontera (at an extra cost)
